Today was the perfect European day. It was beautiful and sunny, a wonderful 70 degrees with a slight breeze. My roommate and I took advantage of the warm weather and walked over to the iconic Plaza de España.
After aimlessly wandering around the beautiful structure and stopping to take pictures, we found a seat and just soaked in the sun and people watched. People watching is one of my favorite things to do in a new city. To describe in one word what I saw and felt today would be happiness. The sounds of children giggling filled the air. Tourists snapping pictures and locals walking their dogs and enjoying time with family. It was the perfect scene. I have only been in Seville for a few days and I am just amazed at how many families and people fill the streets, both young and old. One of the things I appreciate most about Europe is how people live outside. They don’t invite people into their homes, but rather meet them at the local café or bar. Spaniards value relationships and never rush. As an American, I have been focused on efficiency and accomplishment, while Spaniards take their time and enjoy the moment. I am going to take a cue from the Spaniards and slow down to enjoy my short time here. I am looking forward to a lot more afternoons relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere at the Plaza.
