So we’ve talked about the power of mobile marketing as a whole and have also looked at Facebook mobile in depth, now I am going to talk about Twitter Mobile. The opportunity for mobile marketing is exploding every day. Portio Research forecasts mobile subscribers worldwide will reach 7 billion by the end of 2013, 7.5 billion by the end of 2014, and 8.5 billion by the end of 2016. (Data provided by Forbes) A quote from Twitter’s own blog,
“We like to say that Twitter was born mobile. After all, the 140 character limit of Tweets was based on text messaging or SMS constraints. That means our platform was actually designed to allow anyone, anywhere to read, write and share Tweets.”
60% of the 200 million active users on Twitter log in via mobile at least once a month. Twitter users on mobile are more active and follow and interact with more brands. Customers are on Twitter and digital marketers should definitely incorporate Twitter into their mobile marketing strategy. Here are three things to keep in mind when thinking about reaching customers on mobile Twitter.
1. Choose a Twitter handle that’s representative of your brand.
Keep it short and simple, but most importantly illustrative of your brand. Here’s an article from HubSpot that has good advice for picking a Twitter handle.
2. Leave room for Retweets.
Keep content brief. The more concise your tweets are, the easier it will be for users to respond to your tweet. Maybe try using a link shortner such as bit.ly.
3. Understand Hashtags.
This is a very important point. No one likes it when there are more characters dedicated to hashtags than content. It’s frustrating and the reader is not going to take the time to decipher the different hashtags. So, do research first and use 1-3 hashtags that are relevant to your company’s message and brand.
The world of mobile marketing is really unchartered territory, but territory we cannot afford to ignore. So, get out there and start optimizing your Twitter account for mobile users.
